If you're reading this, your wedding probably isn't a backyard barbecue with a borrowed speaker. You're planning something considered — a beautiful venue, a guest list you actually thought about, details you care about. And now you're choosing the person who will turn all of it into the photographs you'll look at for the rest of your lives.

Here's the honest truth from someone who has photographed more than 125 weddings: "luxury" in wedding photography has almost nothing to do with the price tag. It's about what happens when things don't go to plan.

What "Luxury" Actually Means

A luxury wedding photographer is not the one with the most expensive camera. It's the one who:

  • Stays calm when the timeline slips. Rain at 2pm, a speech running 20 minutes long, a flower girl staging a revolt — your photographer should be the calmest person in the room, not another source of stress.
  • Makes you look like yourselves, only better. Not stiff, not over-posed, not a stranger's Pinterest board. Editorial when the light is right, documentary when the moment is real.
  • Delivers a gallery you actually want to open. Not 4,000 near-identical frames. A curated story — the big moments and the small ones you didn't even see happen.

If a photographer's pitch is mostly about their gear and their awards, keep looking. If it's about how your day will feel, you're getting warm.

Always Ask for a Full Gallery

This is the single most important piece of advice in this post. Anyone can make a portfolio of 40 perfect frames. Ask to see one complete wedding, start to finish — getting ready through the last dance, in the same light and weather you'll have.

Look for: how they handle dark churches and bright patios, whether the family photos are sharp and flattering (not just the golden-hour portraits), and whether the dance floor looks like fun or like a crime scene. If they hesitate to share a full gallery, that's your answer.

The Questions Worth Asking

Before you book anyone, ask these — the answers tell you more than any Instagram feed:

  1. How many weddings have you photographed, and how many at my venue?
  2. What happens if it rains all day? (In Vancouver, this is not a hypothetical — I wrote about it here: What Happens If It Rains All Day at Your Vancouver Wedding?)
  3. Do you carry backup cameras, lenses, and memory cards?
  4. Will you help us build the photography timeline, or do we hand you one?
  5. How long until we see our photos, and how many do we get?
  6. What's included — second photographer, engagement session, album, travel?
  7. Can we see a full gallery from a wedding like ours?

What Luxury Wedding Photography Costs in Vancouver

Let's talk numbers, because vague pricing helps no one. My wedding collections are transparent: Intimate from $3,400, Signature from $4,700, and Premium from $7,500 (plus GST). What changes between them is coverage time, a second photographer, and album and delivery options — not the quality of the work.

What you're really paying for, at any price point, is covered in detail here: What You're Actually Paying For When You Hire a Wedding Photographer

The short version: you're paying for experience — the 125 weddings before yours, the ability to find light in a windowless room, the timeline that keeps your day moving without anyone noticing, and a gallery that still makes you cry in ten years.

Red Flags (From a Photographer, Honestly)

  • No contract. Ever. No exceptions.
  • Prices far below everyone else's. Photography is the one vendor you can't redo. A bargain photographer is usually a beginner, or someone cutting corners you'll discover too late.
  • No backup plan. One camera, no second shooter option, no rain plan — walk away.
  • They can't show you a full gallery. See above. Always above.
  • They make it about them. Your wedding is not their portfolio shoot.

Why Couples Book Silver Moon

I photograph weddings in an editorial-meets-documentary style: the portraits look like they belong in a magazine, and the in-between moments look like your real life — because they are. I'm based in Coquitlam and photograph weddings across Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, and beyond, from Celebration Pavilion at Queen Elizabeth Park to the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and everywhere in between.

If this sounds like the experience you want, I'd love to hear about your day — explore my wedding photography packages or get in touch to check your date. Dates for peak season go first, and I take a limited number of weddings each year so every couple gets my full attention.
